]I am hosting my 3rd annual cookie exchange and I am still working out the kinks!! I usually have everyone bring 6 dozen cookies 2 to pass around and 4 to swap. Does anyone else let the ladies eat some before swapping. I think I'm doing something wrong here.

Our group has grown to about 25 ladies, so I ask them to bring packages of 4 cookies/person to swap plus an extra 6-12 cookies for a tasting plate which is part of the refreshments for the evening. From what I've read on here, there are so many ways to do it, I don't think there is a wrong way. It's whatever works for you and your group.

This will be my third year too. The first year guests brought 8 dozen on platters or containers. Last year I encouraged guests to bring so many prepackaged (lots of creativity here). Easy for people to take home and their already wrapped and stay fresh. We have never done the tasting of them at the exchange. One prize is the best cookie presentation. I make too much food for the night to have the ladies eat the cookies too. I agree its all what works for you.

I have my guests bring a couple of "loose" cookies, in addition to their packaged cookies. They take turns telling about their recipe, the origin or how they came up with it, and then pass the loose cookies around for everybody to break off and have a taste. They then pass out their pre-packaged cookies, to other guests who are eagerly awaiting with their open bags, like trick-or-treaters on Halloween!

I'm a little confused about the 6 dozen cookies. Does 1 person bring all the same 6 doz or 6 doz different? re: I person bring all Ginger snaps..etc? My daughter and I are trying it this year, neither one of us has ever done it before and we really are not sure how it works..

Been doing it that way for over 10 years. Works for us!

If you're having each guest bring 6 dozen cookies, then definitely have them all bring 6 dozen of ONE type of cookie. Makes it easier on the batch baking.
