I've never been to a cookie exchange...and thinking of hosting my 1st this year. (Trying not to get cold feet... I hope I'm not sitting here alone eating my cookies! lol). Here's my question..... What happens after the cookie exchange? Does your family eat all the cookies? Do you try to seal the individual kinds of cookies to store them? or freeze them for another week? I'm thinking of having a Sunday afternoon party... on December 12th. It'll be 12 days before Christmas. I know the purpose of the party isn't all about the cookies... I'm just wondering how all of you do it! Thanks! Tamra

Each lady bring pkgs. of 4 cookies for each participant plus 12 cookies for a sample plate. My pkgs. are eaten by my family in about 2 days.
We always have some leftover cookies and I also ask the ladies to bring extra cookies. In the past, we have shared them with shut-ins at our church. But, since we found many of them are on restricted diets, this year we are taking them to our volunteer fire dept. I am also asking ladies to bring refrigerated cookie dough for them since they do cook at the firehouse. My contact there says they are very excited.

The Cookie Party allows you to give your hairdresser, mailman etc. a dozen or so mixed cookies and you did only a little baking.

Between my husband and kids the cookies get eaten pretty quick! lol I do grab some to freeze and enjoy them through the winter. I ask each guest to bring 6 dozen and usually have about 20-25 guests, so there is quite an assortment. Not everyone brings exactly 6 dozen, so after everyone has taken two or three there are some stragglers, which I claim for myself! The gals know by now to bring the cookies on disposable trays so they don't have to worry about taking home the tray.
