Growing up we used to make wreathes out of cornflakes and I have no idea what else was in it though...my mom doesn't remember what it was either, shockingly!...we'd use green food coloring for the wreathes and then red frosting for a bow. I THINK the recipe either included corn starch or peanut butter (I'm leaning more towards the corn starch though, even though that sounds less appetizing, I think thats right lol)...anyways, I was hoping somebody would see "cornflakes" and know what I'm talking about...sorry for being so broad! TIA for any help! Kate (this year is going to be my 2nd exchange!)

Hmm...the only thing I can think of is heating corn syrup and white granulated sugar until the mixture is gently boiling, then mixing in peanut butter until it's very smooth and melty...then coat the cornflakes in the peanut butter mixture. I imagine you could use food coloring to tint the mixture, though I'm not sure how it would look with the brownish shade of the peanut butter! Once your treats are coated, you could form them into any shape you wishe, then decorate as desired. I have the recipe written down at home, if this is even remotely close to what you're thinking of! This is the recipe I use when I make "O'Henry Bars" - good old High School Home Economics class! We would melt milk chocolate chips and top the bars off that way, but you could do pretty much anything you wanted to! I bet you could even make your wreaths out of rice crispie treats...might not have any issues with the funky brown peanut butter color Now I'm hungry...

Is this what you are looking for?
INGREDIENTS: 1 (16 ounce) package large marshmallows 1/2 cup butter, softened 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract 1 1/2 teaspoons green food coloring 4 1/2 cups cornflakes cereal 1 (2.25 ounce) package cinnamon red hot candies
DIRECTIONS: In a saucepan over low heat, melt together the marshmallows, butter, vanilla, and food coloring. Mix in the cornflakes cereal. Drop by spoonfuls on wax paper, and decorate with red hots. Set aside, and allow to cool.
Hope that helps.

Kimmy,After looking at the recips I think you're right about the peanut butter not making the color right...so I'll omitt that as a possible ingredient. :-) Though I do love me some peanut butter!
However, Diane's recipe sounds right about right...now that you mention the red hots that is totally what we used, not frosting! doh! I think you hit the nail on the head :-)
Thanks for the replies ladies!

Diane, thanks for posting that recipe...I think I have everything at home already so I might have to whip up a batch...I'll disguise them as something less Christmassy so people don't think I'm nuts
