I am planning to host my very first Cookie Exchange in a few weeks and I'm SO excited. I started thinking this afternoon about food allergies. I have a friend (who is invited to the CE) and my son who are both severely allergic to nuts. In fact, I stopped using nuts altogether in my baking and cooking when we learned of his allergy. I'm worried some of the cookies to be shared will have nuts and I want to have a plan. I would like your advice as to how to address this issue? Should I have two tables to place the cookies on - "nut-free" and "with nuts"? Is it best to ask guests not to make anything with nuts and state it on the invitation?

:)I am one of those people who is severly allergic to nuts. I have asked for the recipes in advance so I can tag all those with nuts and nut products (peanut, hazelnut, and almond butters). Once the guests start arriving I will ask them again about the nuts in their cookies, (in case they changed their recipe) so I can tag them. I plan on using a bright color and letting everyone know before we start sharing that certain cookies with the bright labels contain nuts. I also plan on putting the cookies with nuts on one side of the table just in case the allergy is that severe that they can't be near. Hope this helps. Katherine
