Ladies: Im so excited to be part of your group. Here is my problem. This is my 3rd year for a Cookie exchange. In fact it got so big we had to rent a hall to have room for everyone. My problem is I have 40 people coming and the amount of cookies that everyone has to bring will get costly and no one needs that many cookies. So what should I do about the cookies, I have 30 people that want to attend with cookie and 10 that want to attend without. The ones attending with cookies dont want to spend or make 30 dozen cookies. what is the best possible solution here? Thanks for all your help Barb

The large number of cookies was a problem for my ladies also. A few years ago we started bringing packages of 6 cookies for each person. Now, we are down to 4 cookies per package. It is enough to give the ladies a taste and if they like them enough, they have the recipe to make more.
I'd say that the purpose of our exchange is not to get enough cookies for Christmas, because they never last that long once the husbands and kids get their hands on them. We do it for the fellowship and to get new recipes.

I attend two exchanges each year, one has over 100 guests, the other has had only 12. The larger one does a round robin for choosing their cookies, those who signed up early get a higher number they go first, taking one dozen at a time~we each bring 12 dozen and take home 12 dozen. We go in groups of 20 at a time, lots of fun, scrambling to get cookies. The other has typically had thirteen guests, 12 dozen cookies, now we have 17 attending this year, going to do an alphabetical system to gets next 12 names after hers and so on, it goes quicker than you think. We will line the cookies up in order when guests arrive. The larger exchange is held at a hotel, has viewing and sampling for 2 hours, lunch then exchange. we have done exchanges with 4 or 6 cookies per person, it is hardly worth doing in my opinion. I like to get many of the same kind and use them for parties, school....

PS~~~ for those who don't want to make cookies, they come, enjoy the "party", have everyone bring an appetizer to share. At the BIG exchange there is a cost for the room, lunch....of $70 to attend, whether you bake or not, you can taste the cookies, (but take none home, if you choose not to bake.) No cost for the smaller exchange, just bring an appetizer to share.

I like Susie's idea to share the recipe with a smaller number of cookies, that makes great sense.
