I cut out and baked my very first gingerbread house last night; I'm going to spend the weekend decorating it, and plan on using it as the centerpiece for my exchange.........thoughts?

That is something I have always wanted to do, but sounds a bit too industrious for me. Wilton makes a lovely gingerbread kit that takes the effort out of baking and cutting (exact) the pieces. I have done theirs and added extra embleishments of my own. Your finished product should be beautiful though.... Enjoy.

I did that last year, and just baked mine today for this years exchange - which is this coming Friday. Last year, I just decorated it however I wanted to make it cute. My son (then 3 1/2) helped. But, this year, I'm decorating it to "match" my invitations - I rubber stamp, and have one of a gingerbread house and GB boy, so I stamped the gingerbread house and colored it in, and put that on the front of my invitation. I'm going to try my best to mimick that on my gingerbread house when I decorate it tonight. My son will be helping again. He loves to help cook in the kitchen.
I thought about trying to do more than one house - more like a village - but I just don't have the time to do that much this year. Maybe next year!
