Well,I hosted my first cookie exchange yesterday and it went very well. 11 people were present and we had 23 different varities of cookies. I made 15 dozen myself(baked for my Mom who just got out of physical rehab because of a bad fall) and it was a good thing because one of the ladies didn't understand it was 6 dozen total.So in the spirit of the day I let her have the extra 3 dozen I made.Another lady brought 12 dozen(1 dozen wrapped for each person). Some people split their 6 dozen into 2 and even 3 or 4 different kinds of cookies. I bought presents at the $1 store(ornaments,figurines and hand towels)and let each person take something from the basket. After they had selected what they wanted, we played the left-right game and whatever present they ended up with was what they got to take home. I also had a door prize and that person got a live Christmas tree I had found on sale. Oh the cookie stories that went around! 
While we were waiting for a couple people to arrive, everyone just started talking about their recipes and experiences baking them--I didn't even have to ask them to talk about it--they laughed and joked for quite awhile. After a finger food buffet and more visiting(it was all family and close friends who came),everyone grabbed a tray and I told them to just start around the tables and help themselves until they had their 6 dozen cookies.Most everyone was talking and laughing so much that they lost count--me included.Most recipes must have yielded more than 6 dozen because even after everyone got their cookies, there seemed to be alot still left on the trays. I told everyone to just start taking more and fill their trays the rest of the way up. Everyone seemed like they weren't sure they were supposed to have this many(I think it was overwhelming to some of them). Everyone said what a neat idea it was and how glad they were that they came and they want me to do it again next year! Yea!! ;D Thanks Robin and all of you others here on the boards--if I hadn't found this site I would have missed out on so much--I can't wait until next year!! Oh yeah--the cookies were awesome--not 2 alike and very yummy!! Thanks again for all the suggestions and stories here on the boards.
