How long can a tray of cookies have varied cookies in it before the cookie tastes start to mix in with each other? I read that you should separate the different cookies so that they don't all end up tasting alike. I'm hosting my first cookie exchange on December 19, and would like to provide tins and trays for the ladies to place their goodies, and hopefully keep them in the newly arranged trays through Christmas. Is this okay? Thanks for any help with this question!

I would recommend baggies. I just got back from a cookie exchange and I put all the different cookies in one tin (with layers of saran wrap). They have been in the container together for only 1 1/2 hours and I can already taste some of the flavors rubbing off on one another (especially since there was a mint type cookie). Next time I am going to bring a container with baggies.

Besides absorbing flavors (like mint), another good reason not to package all types of cookies together is that the moisture contents of each recipe are different. If you package a crispy cookie like a gingersnap with a soft cookie, the crisp cookies will get soggy over a day or so.
