Well today was the progressive cookie exchange and I have to say it was fun.
We started out at one house for brunch. It started at 9:30am and we didn't leave for the second house until nearly 11:00am. The second house we had hot cider and played the White Elephant exchange game. We left around noon for the cookie exchange house. I was a little disappointed that four of the 12 ladies brought bars (which I did not know was an option since it was not stated in the invitation) and one didn't bring any (but went home with a plate full). I asked one lady how many she made (her tray didn't look like it even had 3 dozen) and she said "oh I don't know - I didn't count."
The hostess just said to walk around the table and pick 2 or 3 from each tray but I think that she should have calculated better. I don't think I came back with 6 dozen but that fine with me since I like doing my own baking.
I felt sorry for the lady that brought the fruit cake cookies because half were still on her tray. I still think we should take from each tray - period - so as not to hurt someones feelings. Oh Well.
The entire thing ended at 1pm. I would like to incorporate some of these things in my next exchange and I am going to make time next year no matter what! I liked the brunch idea and the gift exchange but some of the ladies said they would have prefered a nice gift exchange rather than a white elephant.
I also think it would be nicer to have it at one house rather than going from house to house or at least have only two houses - one for the meal and the other for the exchanges. It was nice to have a brunch meal at a lovely decorated table (each table was decorated in a different theme). For me it would be hard to provide tables to eat and then a table for the cookies (my house is not that big). The gift and cookie exchange could easily be done at one house.
