I am fairly new to the area I live in, and have had a really tough time making friends. I stumbled upon a website earlier this year called Meetup.com. It's basically a website where you can meet others in your area with the same interest, and form groups to "meetup" once a month. After seeing the Food network cookie exchange show last Christmas, it just sorta clicked. Combine these two, and you have not only a great way to meet new friends, but also have cookie exchanges year round! Why just do it at Christmas?! My group now has 6 members (and growing), and we're just about to have our first meeting. I call it a "meet & greet", so all the ladies can meet in a public place before the actual exchanges start, and get to know one another before going to each other's homes. We've planned our first exchange for Halloween, and then will most likely have our 2nd for Christmas. I think we'll probably have the exchanges for various holiday's, and just have get together's for the month's in between. I hope this inspires other women to consider this as well. I'll keep you posted on how ours works out! [glow=red,2,300]Cheryl Jacksonville, Florida[/glow]

I just stumbled on the Meetup.com site this month too. I went to a meeting for a hiking group and met some fun new people.
What a great idea, Cheryl! You could potentially do cookie swaps for any of the major holidays. (Christmas, Valentine's, Easter, 4th of July, Halloween.) Or for no reason at all.
I guess the only concern I would have is that swapping food with strangers has some risks. Just something to think about.
