Welcome Heather. I had my 1st cookie exchange last year & this web site was great. Just reading everyones experience gave me great ideas. There are so many ways to do one that you'll have to see what works best for you. For example, how many cookies do you want everyone to make. I had 6 dozen at my party. I asked that flour be the main ingredient. Now this time I'm changing that. You would want your guest to dress in the Christmas spirit. Give prizes to the best one, or the 1st to arrive, it's all up to you. This site will give you suggesting on all your questions. You'll do fine...Good luck to you Tara

This will be my 3rd Annual Cookie Exchange, and without this site I would have never made it! Thanks to Robin every year has been a success. I also start planning for the next one right away. I have made 20 invitations and printed them out ready to go. I send out reminder postcards in September to let everyone know what this years theme will be. For a twist this year I have requested each guest to bring a wrapped ornament for the left right game.

I am hosting my first ever exchange this year at my church, and are expecting 30 to 50 ladies. After reading the posts I am concerned about the # of cookies I need to have the ladies bring ( I have requested 6 dozen, and some women think I am crazy asking for that many). Has anyone done an exchange with this many people? Any suggestions.....

Tammy - maybe you should divide them in groups of 8 or 10. Say when they arrive, have a basket with numbers on them. If they draw #1 - the or 10 of them will exchange with that group of ladies that drew #1, etc. You can do everything else together, but have different tables set up for the different numbers for the actual exchange. I'd like to judge the cookies submitted to award the top three and don't know what to judge them on, texture, creativity, taste, presentation, etc.
Do any of you have a judge score sheet that you can email me? My email address is: jcampbell@enduracare.com or jccampbell1@cox.net
Thanx!

Like Taylormade, I usually start thinking about my cookie exchange shortly after the last one. LOL This year will be my 9th exchange. Beginning with year one, I have always made my invitations by hand, using rubber stamps, the computer, etc. And they've always had a gingerbread theme. I have admit, coming up with a new gingerbread idea each year is getting a little harder, but this year an idea came to me in late August / early September that is my favorite yet! It's a mini scrapbook invitation, complete with a photo of last year's group. I already have all of them made and even the envelopes addressed! ;D Now I've started on my party favor, a CD of some of my favorite Christmas music. I made one last year for everyone and it was a big it, so this will be "volume 2".

I am so disappointed. We sold our house. While that really is a good thing, we close on the 30th of November. I will probably have to cancel my party this year!

sjayne - don't cancel your cookie exchange! If you are not moving out of the area just invite a set number of friends to meet for a lunch or dinner at a resturant. Have each lady put their cookies in beautifully decorated cello bags. After lunch everyone can exchange bags.
Another option might be to co-host with one of your friends using her house of course.

Tammy - a friend of mine does a huge neighborhood cookie exchange at her house every year. Usually around 50 ladies show up. When it is time to exchange she just lets the ladies take what they want from the table. I guess most don't mind if they walk away with a lot or a little. Personally I don't care for this idea but this is her 4th year of doing the exchange and it seems to work for her (and her friends).

I am hosting my 2nd cookie exchange and am wondering if guests should bring the same cookie recipe as they did last year. I have one guest who said that is what she was going to do. I have the same people coming this year as last. Any suggestions?

I say let her bring the same recipe - why not. It was probably a good cookie. I wouldn't really say anything to the other potential guests. If they all bring the same well would that we so terrible. Some times it gets more confusing to tell guests what cookie to bring and they may want to bring something different. I think it should just be an individual preference.

Cheryl - I think it's fine if people want to bring the came cookie as last year. Some of the other guests might be looking forward to having them again. If they want to change recipes, that's fine, too. Afterall, it's nice to try something new, variety is the spice of life. It's probably best not to get TOO superinvolved with extra rules for your guests, because there are already a lot of them to deal with usually.
Have a great party!

Hi..This year will be my third exchange and I had decided from the beginning that a guest could not make the same cookie two years in a row. This way it keeps the variety changing every year. I think you can do it whatever way works for you though.

I bought all my prizes last year on Jan 1st and the after-Christmas sales. I hit Old Navy for socks, ornaments, candles, gift bags, etc. My sister has also been collecting gifts all year. It's the end of November and all I need to do is mail my invitations! And buy the appetizers!
