Robin-I went and read your new information on the history of the cookie exchanges. Syracuse isn't very far from where I live--about an hour or so. My grandmother is 105 years old and when I go see her today I am going to ask her if she has ever been to an exchange. I know they used to have Mother/Daughter Tasting Teas back in the 70's--it was all desserts not just cookies.I have all of my grandmother's cookbooks so when the holidays are over I am going to look through her old books and see if I can find any mention of exchanges around here. It's a little off topic, but I wanted to share something about my grandmother. My grandmother loves to bake and whenever she would make pies for bake sales, the pies would be sold before she could get them there. She was in her late 90's when she made 13 pies for the American Legion Auxiliary bake sale. Not one was left! Anyway, thanks for sharing the new information with us--I can't wait to see if I can find any articles myself.I am even going to suggest to the local volunteer fire department auxiliary about having a Cookie Walk next year to raise money for the fire department. Thanks so much for having such a great place to share information and memories! Cindy

Cindy, Thanks for sharing the story of your grandmother. I look forward to hearing if she recalls any cookie swaps in her day. Since she is still alive, it would be good to interview her in depth and write all of her memories down. Once she's gone all the details of her life will go with her.
I did this in 1998 and I'm glad I did since my grandmother died in 2000.
