Our floor at the hospital would like to have a holiday cookie exchange in December. We have a large common area with a large table to display the cookies. Anyone have any ideas for having a nice party, but with rules that aren't too stringent? We would like as many people to participate as possible. Thanks!

I have a friend that hosts a neighborhood party every year. She usually has around 50 show up - yep that's a lot of ladies. Some of the ladies do not participate they just come to visit. Anyway, she asks the ones participating to bring 6 dozen cookies (because that is what one batch usually makes). Then when it is time she has the participants go around and pick up cookies that are not theirs until they have 6 dozen cookies to take home.
Too me this is crazy because I like organization and I like to make sure that everyone gets their fair share, etc. My friend has done this for years and no one has a problem if they get short changed on cookies and usually she ends up with what's left. It doesn't bother her because it is really all about getting together and having a good time.
Are you going to have a set time for everyone to participate? Would this be during work? Personally if it were during work and people are just coming and going I would ask all the participants to bag/box their cookies for the exchange.

I would agree on the packaging idea.
If the cookies are going to sit out all day, they will stay fresh and "germ free" individually packaged.
I do my exchange (at home) like that and every makes 10 packages of 6 cookies each. They are easy to take home, give away or put in the freezer. Plus it keeps 50 hands from touching every tray during cold and flu season.
