I found a recipe last year for Snickerdoodles that called for Cream of Tartar. I bought it but haven't used it since last year. Lately I have found a few other snickerdoodle recipes that do not call for this ingredient. What is the Cream of Tartar for anyway? I would prefer not buying it again since I don't use it otherwise. Thanks

I would never leave the Cream of Tartar out--it gives the cookie that unique Snickerdoodle flavor...I have no other way to describe it! Without it, you just have a sugar cookie rolled in cinnamon sugar.

That's good to know. I found my recipe in the Betty Crocker book (I've had it forever). I saw other recipes on sights and so far none that calls for the Cream of Tartar. Thanks

It probably is still good if it is unopened....cream of tartar...try it.
