Do you "need" to bring the hostess a gift? No, you don't need to.
Do hostesses enjoy receiving gifts? ABSOLUTELY!!!! (Who doesn't like receiving gifts?)
Yesterday I received 3 hostess gifts. One was a Kaluah set with carafe, another was a gift bag with 2 products from Bath and Body works (I LOVE THAT STORE!!!) The last was "wine rings", to decorate the tops of wine bottles. Multi colored candy canes, cute. In previous years I received nice Christmas pot holders, wine, expensive copper cookie cutters... The list goes on. Anything you like, a hostess would like, too, we really appreciate it! I don't expect the gifts, so it's always a welcome surprise.

Over the course of hosting cookie exchanges for twenty years, I've received many lovely gifts from friends and neighbors. Some of my favorite gifts were special ornaments for my Christmas tree. Some other favorites were Bath & Body Works lotions & soaps, bottles of wine, homemade candies & holiday treats like specials coffees and teas. It's always nice to be remembered and thanked for your "hard work".

I know how hard it is to plan and host a cookie swap. It is just so nice when someone acknowledges that with a small thank you gift.
I have received many of the same items.
This year my friend is co-hosting a swap (tonight - hurray) and I am giving each of the ladies a small yankee candle. I love these for the bathrooms.
