Hi all,
In a week it will be 100 days until Christmas!
I am already excited about planning my second cookie exchange, and I am thinking about sending out "Save the Date" cards this week. I thought the '100 days 'til Christmas' angle would be a good way to remind people, and make sure they mark their calendar. Things get so busy during the holidays!
What do you all think? Do any of you send out Save the Date cards? Is it too early? I am already Christmas crazy. Maybe I should wait until after Halloween?

No, I don't think you are nuts, that sounds like a cute idea. I have been lining up my prizes (purchased after last Christmas) and making prize baskets, i have already made my favors, and have my menu set.
I think your friends would get a kick out of receiving your postcard. Go for it!!!!

I've never sent postcards, but I think it's an excellent idea. Especially for people just starting out, to get their guests "thinking about it". I have everyone on an email list so I usually start emailing the date notification right after Halloween. Then I send out paper invitations one month before the party. If you wait too long to send invites, you'll get a lower turn out. Everyone is busy in Dec and the calendar fills up quickly. Plus, if you wait until after Thanksgiving, your invite may be delayed by all the Christmas cards.

Last year about a week after the exchange that I hosted, I sent out "Save the Date" letters for this years cookie exchange, just to let everyone know that I planned on doing it again. I also told them there would be a "handmade ornament exchange" at the cookie exchange. I thought that would give them a chance to plan ahead.
I received quite a few positive responses on sending the cards.
December is a busy month and that way they girls can put the date on their busy holiday calendar.

I sent a save the date this year, at the beginning of September because many people replied with regrets last year saying they did not have enough advance notice. They did not think I was crazy...everyone knows how fast weekends fill up once Thanksgiving is upon us!  |
