Hi. I am having a 70's party in September. Although my husband knows about it, he doesn't know it's a party for his 40th bday in November. We figure having it in September will really throw him off. Anyway, since he and I both grew up during the 70's I thought it would be fun to turn back time. I am of course going to have a DJ play all the 70's music and decorate our patio area as the dance floor with a disco ball, colored lights and metallic curtains. I'm also going to hang metallic stars from it. I am having a Macho Man /Foxy Lady dance contest. The men will dance to Macho Man, Love Machine and Rod Stewart's Do you think I'm Sexy? The women will dance to Brick House, Bad Mama Jama, and Super Freak. Of course they will need to be bribed into it so there is a $25.00 cash prize for each winner. I also have prizes for Best Costume. I'm trying to bring back all of the 70's not just the disco part. I'm going to have games we played as children out on the dining table so guests can feel free to enjoy. The classics like Operation, Battleship and Connect Four. I'm also serving most of the appetizers Robin has listed. Nothing like a Ritz with Easy Cheese on it! And lastly I am having a Tequila Sunrise/Pina Colda bar. I can't stand having my guests standing around looking bored and try very hard to keep things exciting and I like to surprise them and make them laugh. For instance, I'm planning on being Mrs. Roper that night. Sorry so long.

Sandy, Sounds like your throwing the perfect party! I wish I could attend. I just have to tell you this, it's incredible! I don't know what your budget is, but it sounds to me that your going "all out"..... I just purchased this light figure for only $100.00 called the "mini mace" from musicianfriend.com and let me tell you, forgive my language but, ("f**KIN... A!!... MAN!!) It's unbelievable! My bedroom is swarming in multicolor light.... It consumes you!!! It's like it transports you into another realm....Incredible!! Here's the link: www.musiciansfriend.com/product/DJ/Gear/Lighting/Lighting/Effects?sku=801159I strongly suggest you get this! Even after the party, it's great to have when you crank up the tunes! I don't care if your listening to disco, 70's rock or whatever, it's AWESOME!!! And what's great about this effect is that it's made for small parties, yet it's professional grade. it's 200 watts and can be plugged into a regular outlet. Check it out, and let me know. Trust me... I'm not steering you wrong....

First af all hi to everyone! I just created my account , and I'm here for the first time... I'm from The republic of Georgia if anyone heard about my country I'll be happy .... The thing is that I'm only 20 and I'm planning to make a 60's (sort of) party... I want to tell you about my idea, it will be my first project from university and it will be held in 5 days on MAy 25,so I'd like to hear whether it's good or not. It is called "Traveling to the 60's", It will be a kind of propaganda against global problems such as war and violence.. I will use the symbols peace and smile and important quotes against it. Invitations are in format of tickets, there will be photos from the 60's I've chosen 7 themes- Demonstrations, Youth, entartainment, cinema, hippis, music... Decorations - bagagge, old bags and all the elements that will make a sense of travel. A concert will be held and two rock groups will take part in it, one of the groups called "Smile" are 13 years old boys, that will play and sing Beatles creative work. For them it will be the first time in front of the large public. There will also be showen on a big monitor concerts(BEatles, Doors) and musical "HAIR"...as well other interesting documentaries from those years... Rock and roll music will continue the evening... Dress code will be 60's of course.. I think it will be more like a theatrical demonstartion that will give a lot of information for the Georgian youth about 60's. My motive is that "ALL WE NEED IS LOVE" so I want to make accents on love, peace and all the positive emotions... If anyone replys before 25 it will be a big thing for me...Thank u P.S excuse for my English

Hi Nathalie, I think your idea is great. I honestly can't think of anything to add because you have a solid idea with a lot of content already. What kind of other ideas are you looking for? Robin PS) Yes, I have heard of Georgia.

Hi Sandy! This is my first time to this site and it's great!! I also am having my 40th this year and planning a very similar party the one your throwing for your husband. We are doing costumes from 70's TV shows, playing the theme songs from the shows along with all of our favorite 70's tunes. I love Robin's 70's menu and that's what I gave to my caterers. I have a question for you, I was curious what kind of invitations you did? Did you do a regular paper invite or something creative?
Thanks Tonya

Hi Everyone! This is a really good forum, and am going to enjoy looking through the rest of it for ideas.Only thing is, I am in Australia, so any suggestions that I am looking for as to where to buy things might not be that helpful!I found a great site for party goods that sold alot of 70's gear, but was in America, and for overseas buyers you had to order $200 worth! Can't seem to find that much in the way of 70's gear here.Hubby and I had a dissapointing day op shopping yesterday for clothes, but I did end up with a luscious brown a-line corduroy skirt! We are having a 70's party in August to celebrate our 1st anniversary, and my birthday.Have most of it planned, but still looking for extra ideas. My friends complain that I spend most of the time in the kitchen at parties, so really looking for ideas on simple food.Having sausage rolls, ribbon sandwhiches, bite size pizzas and quiche so far. That might be enough!Dessert fondue(have a lovely original 70's fondue set). Also looking for some games we can play.Having pass the parcel, and also a guess the jellybeans in the jar.
