Get an old 70's era cookbook for recipe ideas. Watergate cake was a real popular dessert. Old magazines also give good ideas, you may be able to find a theme idea there.

You gotta use a lot of Tupperware (perhaps vintage 70's tupperware) to serve the food in. Tupperware was huge back then. My mom had a lot of Tupperware parties back then. You can make dips in it, serve the food in it, and then store in the fridge in the same container. Now it seems that people are hyper lazy and use disposable plastic container/storage bags for parties. It's a shame. But anyway, cool vintage Tupperware might be cool at your party. Especially the funkier 1970's colors -- avacado green, oranges, browns, etc.. Also, people were big on dips back then (still are) -- 7 layer mexican dip (yum), avacado dip, etc.. Also Chex party mix. Also, there are candy co's that sell retro 70's candy in their original '70's packaging. Maybe have some of those. As for food, the food was all about souflets, caseroles, gouleshes. I think the food was a bit more complicated back then, because more women were stay at home housewives back then, compared to today.

In reading over foods on the homepage for a 70's party, I didn't see No Bake Cookies on the dessert list... those were huge when I was a kid! Were they popular only in the northwest pocket of Washington State or do ya'll know what I'm talking about? I made so many of them for High School bake sales I think I still remember the recipe!
