Hello all,
I am new to this forum.
I collect Peace Sign pendants/necklaces, from the 60/70s. I recently purchased one from a gentleman in Gulfport, MS. He claims:
We offer for your consideration a nice, family-kept Anti-Establishment 1960s Risque "Make Love, Not War" Peace Sign Necklace that my brother brought home from California. My brother was 15 years old in the '60s when he bagan playing bass in a rock and roll band called Flower Power. The band toured all over the Southwest and Southeast opening concerts for such groups as The Who, B.J. Thomas, Vanilla Fudge, Canned Heat, The Troggs, and I believe the Allman Brothers. They also played in New Orleans and pop festivals in Houston, Jackson (MS), Atlanta, Macon (GA), etc. Back then, there was often numerous bands playing at a single concert. The band's record label was in New Orleans and he also served as "the personal guide" for Jimi Hendrix during his concert in the Crescent City. On a swing to California I believe they opened for the Allmans and he bought this necklace. Either at Fillmore West or in Haight-Ashbury. The 3-inch metal pendant shows a male and female making love and their bodies forming the Peace Symbol. It comes with the original chain and is still in great shape. With the necklace folded in half, it hangs 17 inches. Needless to say, my mother hit the roof when he came home with it and he only wore it a few times. He wore it once at school and was immediately suspended for 5 days. She immediatelly took it away from him and kept it hidden away for years and years.
Can anyone provide me with any insight on the band Flower Power?
Thanks,
