I was a teenager in the 1970s and have nothing but the fondest memories of that era. I had 6 close girlfriends and we would always hang out together. One of my strongest memories of the fashion trends at that time was of wearing a bandana over my hair, folded into a triangle and tying the ends together under my hair at the back of my neck. I remember when we were together, at least one of us would invariably be wearing one, usually either red, or dark blue, with white polka dots or white paisley swirls. Although at the time we used to call them headscarves, my daughter now reliably informs me they are called bandanas lol. I will still wear one now occasionally. Do other women remember wearing these as a fashion trend? I'd love to know, and if so, do you still ever wear one now? Thank you. Trish

Hi Trish, We called them bandanas in the 70's. I wore them all the time and had them in every color.

Hi Robin, Thanks for your reply. I'll have to see if I have any old photos of me and my friends wearing our bandanas - if I do I'll be sure to post them. I still wear one now occasionally when I'm feeling nostalgic - it reminds me of those lovely care-free days of the 70s. Do you still ever wear one? Trish

This link is to a page in my 70's section. It's me and my mom and I'm wearing a bandana. I'm also wearing elephant bells, which of course were bigger bells than regular bell bottoms. My mom made everything she is wearing and the top that I am wearing. www.robinsweb.com/70s/momnme.htm

My girlfriends and I all wore them, especially when we were out riding our 10 speed bikes. Another trick we used them for, was to cover our hair if we hadn't shampooed it yet. Heaven forbid if someone might see you when your hair wasn't clean & smelling of Clairol Herbal Essence Shampoo. (Or Gee Your Hair Smells Terriffic) which just reminds me of my Dad yelling that we were going to use up all the Hot Water. (LOL)

Hi, Thank you for all your replies. It amazes me how things come full circle - my 19 yeqr old daughter Jackie wears a bandana on her head all the time. She even wears some of my old ones which I still have. The attached photo is Jackie wearing a bandana of mine. She has convinced me that bandanas are very much in fashion again, so much so that I have even started wearing them again. Do any other of you ladies have daughters who wear them? Or do you ever still wear one yourself? I'd love to hear from you. Trish x Attachments:

Hi Trish, I grew up in the 70s and wore bandanas all the time - I had them in every color! My girlfriends and I always had bandanas on - we loved them for fashion, and, dare I admit it, if we hadn't washed our hair! I still have my bandanas from the 70s, and wear one from time to time, but just as you said, my daughter wears them regularly too. Love the fact fashion classics come round again and again. Your daughter looks lovely in the photo - red was always my favourite color bandana. Robin - do you still wear one? Thank you for a great nostalgia post Trish - I'm going to go and put a bandana on! Jackie x

;DOh how I remember those bandanas. I wore red ones, blue ones, even a pink one. We used to tie two together to make halter tops. We wore tight white levi jeans. We would put them on wet so they were skin tight when dry....was so glad when elephant legged pants came in fashion for a short time. Much more comfortable.
