This will be my third cookie party. I need help in deciding how to go about picking the best presentation and best tasting cookie. How do you do it? How do you decide on the best tasting cookie. I will only have the 10 girls in the house the night of the party. I do have each girl bring a plate of cookies for the cookie tasting table but in the past did not give a gift for the best tasting cookie. I want to do that this year but wondered if I should have each girl take one of each cookie and then sit in a circle and taste the cookies individually or just let them sit and talk while they taste the cookies and then ask which they thought was the best cookie. I do not want to offend anyone. The same with the presentation gift. How do all of you decide on who should win for the best presentation? Thank you for suggestions and thank you Robin for your site and helping me to make my parties so successful. G

Tootie,
At my party I had little display cards with the names of the cookies in front of each platter. Each display card was numbered. Each person voted on the Most Festive Display by writing the corresponding number on a piece of paper and putting it into a basket. They also voted for Most Festive Attire by writing the person's name on a slip of paper and putting it into another basket (We don't vote on best tasting cookie).
Hope this helps a little! Susan

I am planning on having everyone vote for most creative packaging. I don't think it is right to do best tasting cookie. I think that someone might really get their feelings hurt doing that one.

That's exactly what I was afraid of ... I didn't want anyone getting their feelings hurt, so I just decided not to have a "Best Cookie". I give out plenty of other prizes though ... most ingredients used, fewest ingredients used, most festive attire, best presentation, etc. etc.

If you are close to a Joann Frabric store - they have cookie flavored shower gels on sale. I picked up a pack of 7 bottles for under $10. I plan on breaking up the set for prizes. They also have the cutest ginger bread man hand soap pump for a couple of bucks.

Thanks to all that replied. I too, am afraid of hurting feelings, but I put it in my newsletter that we were going to pick a best tasting cookie so now I feel I have to go through with it. I will see how it goes this year and learn from the experience. I think I am going to have the girls sit in a circle and all take one each of all the cookies. They can sit and taste and talk among themselves while we go around the circle and each girl take turns telling how and why they picked the cookie that they made. At the end I will just ask them to tell me which cookie they felt was there favorite, and the cookie with the most votes will win. In the past two years I had a most definite favorite cookie each year and that is why I thought I should recognize someone for sharing that recipe with all of us. I hope this works as I do not want to hurt anyone's feelings. It was funny because as I talked to the other girls after the party they all picked the same cookies that I did as a favorite. If anyone has any other suggestions please let me know. Georgeann

I like the idea of awarding "the best tasting cookie!" However, I would be very careful about how you go about doing it. Why not make it a blind judging? That way, your guests will not worry or feel awkward about having to say something out loud to the group about someone else's cookie. What if there is one cookie that just isn't tasty? I'm almost certain your guests wouldn't actually say that out loud, but still. Maybe number the cookies on a separate plate. So, each cookie would be assigned a number and your guest will take one and taste. After everyone has tasted, they can then write down their votes on a cute little print out you give them. You tally the votes and announce a winner. I hope this helps!

We have done an exchange for many years, we award best tasting, best of show (presentation and taste combination) and most unusual ingredient.
We all taste the cookies and tell a bit about the recipe and how we happened to choose it for the exchange, then we vote, (little slips of paper) and annouce the winners~they get the coveted Golden Spoon, (spray painted wooden spoon signed by those attending the party that year.

This will be my 4th cookie exchange this coming up Sunday. We have always picked a best tasting cookie and the best decorated (Christmas) cookie. I normally bring my son or husband in at the end of the party and they have no idea who made what, they sample everything and then choose. It has worked out fine in the past, no one seems to be bothered or feelings hurt as far as I can tell. However, this year my guys are going to be duck hunting so I have no impartial party so I am either not going to do the best tasting or either I am going to number the cookies as they come in and go that route......

I had my guests vote for their favorite and I told them they got to decide how they wanted to vote for it, it could be the best taste, the nicest decorated, etc... Hands down I had one clear winner and one runner up... all the cookies were fantastic, but there were two that just stood out and reading all the recipes ahead of time, I never would have chosen those two...LOL...it was a difficult vote and no ones feelings got hurt... we were all just so full! LOL

Well the Party is Over! I had it Wed. night and they said it was the best party ever! I think it went really well. Thanks to all that made suggestions on how to pick the best cookie and presentation. For the presentation we stood around the table and each girl talked about her presentation. At the end I asked if there was an obvious winner and no one would say. So I had slips of paper and asked them to write a name down and then go to the cookie tasting table and take one of each cookie and then go and sit and visit and taste the cookies. We went around the room and talked about our cookies and asked again if there was an obvious winner and no one would say and so I had a girl walk around with the pen and slips of paper and we voted. No one seemed to be disappointed in the winner of each and then I handed all the gifts out that were won for various things, favors and gifts that I had for each girl and then last handed out the Golden Spoon Award plus the gift for the Best tasting cookie. It was a bottle of wine in a cute bottle holder. She loved it and said she would put it to good use over the holidays. I worked real hard for this party and the girls had a wonderful time which made it all worth it. All of them are coming back next year!!!! Oh, and we played the Antler game and they loved it!!!! What fun.
