Hi Cathy, If there is any consolation, in talking in person with ladies at the book signings about the CE... there's sometimes 1-2 people who are negative nellies, complainers, whiners or general pain the.... about the rules, games, invites, etc... however the vast majority of your guests DO appreciate your efforts and those are the ones you should focus on. I know it's hard when you get a complaint. In my total list of 47, there's 2-3 PIA's. We spend SOOOOO much time/energy on our parties, we (I) think... how can you possibly complain and give me a hard time? Don't you see how HARD I've worked to make a nice party for you to attend? Think about your complainer... is she known for giving parties? I'm guessing, not. Keep doing it for the ones that love it. Robin

Yes, you can use real rum in replace of rum extract! My favorite is Black Seal Rum, it's the "rummiest"

The RSVP problem has certainly been getting worse over the years. It's now become one of the top complaints/ requests for help.
Something to think about... inspire your guests to respond...
Tell them they get raffle tickets for quick response and they can win prizes...
1) tickets for quick response 2) tickets for decorating their party platters 3) tickets for coming dressed in the party theme
I'm going to write about this sad situation in the CE newsletter

Good advice Bumblebeas.
Hi Foomama, It's not panic time --yet. You gave them all to Dec. 1. Therefore, at this point in time, - they get the benefit of the doubt and they have until then to get back to you.
Now, after Dec. 1 is another matter. Since you do want to know exactly how many are showing up, because so much of what we CEr's do and buy is dependant on that info... you could call, or email or create a Facebook events page. With Thanksgiving practically here, everyone is busy right now.
After TG, send a friendly reminder to RSVP asap. State that it's ok if they haven't chosen their cookies yet, you just want a head count and to know who is coming and then give another deadline for cookie type (if you gave enough time between RSVP and actual party.)
With a first time party and possibly many of yours guests not really knowing what a CE is or how it works, don't put too pressure on them with the cookies. In other words, you may not get exact what cookies they'll be bringing up front. (Did you implement an easy theme? Did you send a modified CE Rules?)
Just sure the party is a blast so they'll want to come next year. Good Luck!

Pookie, can you share photos of your gingerbread signs after your party? I know the newsletter would love that. Lots of people do the gingerbread theme. Thanks!

Thanks I was thinking about having everyone bring their own cards, but I am worried that my guests will think that it is too much work and will be discouraged from coming. I am planning on doing the recipe book -after- the exchange and emailing an electronic copy. Speaking with 20 years experience, you probably will not get 100 % compliance asking for printed recipes. I get about 75% to give me the recipes via email and then there's people who just don't care about the recipes at all, they only bake so they can come to the party.

I am hosting my second "bedazzled sugarplum exchange". Everyone is asked to bring 8 wrapped portions of their favorite confection, as well as a portion to share. They are also asked to wear their tackiest Christmas sweater. I had about 40 people last year. I made a holiday bingo game and awarded prizes for winning and the best sweaters. It was a huge success. How do you divide "8 wrapped portions" among 40 people?

I found "Chef Cookie" in 2007 at a local furniture store that specializes in selling model home furniture. They always have crazy, funky stuff. However, I will be doing a book signing in Green Bay Wisconsin in a few weeks and I saw several chef cookie's hanging around the store! If you go to website, www.cookscorner.comand click on Virtual Tour you'll see him. You could email them and inquire.

Robin sez... I'm posting this on behalf of Terri, she was having trouble logging in. Hi everyone, my name is Terri and I am in Australia. On the map of Australia... I think my Cookie Exchange is the one marked in Perth, Western Australia but I have now moved to Brisbane in Queensland! I am in Morayfield in the northern Brisbane suburbs (half way between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast). If any of you live near me... please contact me. I would love to have you join me for a cookie Exchange!
