At my 2010 CE I decided at the end of the party to let people vote on the theme for the 2011 party. They were given five choices and choose, much to my surprise, It's a Marshmallow World as this theme would allow them to bring homemade candy as well as their cookies. (Who would have thought they would want more cooking?) It is sort of nice knowing this early what the theme is as I am planning decor, games, and gifts already.
What is your theme for your 2011 CE?

I am using my favorite Christmas song, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town. My mom and have worked with the lines and have almost completed the wording of my invites. We are calling it Kim's 2nd Annual Christmas Cookie Exchange Is Coming To New China, In Town. I hosted mine at our local favorite Chinese Restaurant, this past year and will be as well this year. Plenty of good food and very nice service without all the hassle of making different things. I have had several request for a party in June, but just not enough time this year, but I am hosting mine on the 2nd Saturday of December as I did last year. Hope everyone is planning and getting ready.

This past weekend my family had a Holiday Swap - we all cleaned out our closets and attics and sorted through our holiday decorations (not just Christmas), then met at one house. We set everything out like a rummage sale, looked through everything, took what we wanted, then the rest is going to Goodwill. ...all that to say, it really got me in the mood to think about what theme to use for this year's CE! The ladies I had last year have been talking about it ever since, and there's a good bit of competition building up. I want to make the theme something fun, but nothing too over the top. I thought of letting them vote on several different ideas, so they can have an extra part (and the pressure is off of me to solely come up with an idea!) I'm still toying with a few ideas...I'd love to do some type of crafty thing at the party this year - sort of thinking of aprons or hand towels and letting the ladies personalize them to their liking...or maybe some festive storage containers for their take-home cookies. Maybe I can tie the activity into the theme some how... Looking forward to seeing every one's ideas so far!

well, I was supposed to do the Grinch as my theme last year...but I kind of decided on it too late and didn't want to waste a good theme while I was ill prepared for it! So this year my theme is "How the Grinch stole cookies" I created the STD already for it magnet style and will send it to the girls the first week in September and then will use the same style with the cookie rules ect on the invites which will go out the beginning of November. This year will be my 4th exchange and we haven't used a theme yet, but I'm thinking it could be fun. Maybe "Nutcracker", gingerbread or Santa's village.

This year I'm doing a Griswold Family Christmas. Ugly Christmas Sweaters, trashy decor and the award formost nostalgic cookie.
Last year was the first year I did a theme and I did T'was Night Before Christmas. We all wore PJ's and had an award for the Best Tasting Cookie.

bumblebeas - what great ideas you have! amberorduna - I LOVE the Griswold Family Christmas theme - every year at our grown-up Christmas party (I would say adult, but that just sounds a bit awkward!) we watch this...mostly it's every one reciting the lines to the movie, but it never gets old.

How about "A Christmas Story" theme? I've got a leg lamp cookie cutter and the movie could be playing during the party.

This will be my 3rd CE so I don't have a lot of themes behind me. The first year there was no real theme, just lots of fun Christmassy stuff. Last year it was Gingerbread Man themed. I decorated and baked around that theme but did not require my guests to comply. This year since I got a huge yard sale find on Snowman stationary ad envelopes it will be a Snowman theme. Again I do not expect my guests to comply - I just base my cookies and decorations around that. (although I will be reusing my Gman directional signs I made last year until they fall apart)

...coming out of lurkdom after years of visiting this useful site...
This will be my 6th CE party. The first 3 were centered around a theme (gingerbread men, angels, snowflakes) where the decor & goodie bags showcased the theme. While these exchanges were fun and well attended (20 or so) - something was missing..
The 4th year was a Tacky Sweater theme and it was so much fun. Word spread about the exchange and I had so many ladies asking to be included in future cookie swaps.
Last year's theme was "Real Housewives of the North Pole" and it was a huge success. Guests came in full diva-attire and our ornament swap was diva-inspired. (think lots of sparkle) I had over 30 guests attend.
This year's theme is "Always an Ugly Bridesmaid" where we will dig out those wonderful dresses from the past. Those that don't wish to (or have been lucky enough to not have to wear one) will come as (royal) wedding guests. Our ornament swap will be wedding inspired.
There's always lots of food, fun, games and GREAT cookies!

Love all the ideas, especially The Griswold one! Too funny
This year we're doing Cookies from Around the World. Everyone is to make a cookie from their (parental/grandparent etc) country of origin or a favourite country they've travelled to. I picked up online various Santa ornaments from different countries that will be part of the decor and flower centrepieces. Now I am researching various cocktails to go with the theme. The main cake is a 3-d globe surrounded by Gingerbread cookies with different world santa outfits. Ladies are also asked to dress in the colours from the country they've selected.

I am using the Gingerbread Theme this year and last year I used the theme "All Wrapped Up". It will be quite interesting this year to see how my guests receive this year's theme. Will keep you posted.

All the themes sound great... I have not done an official cookie exchange yet, just a few friends that quickly got together to do the swapping..no party involved. I have not heard of a Rudolph theme yet... and I'm planning on doing a Naughty or Nice theme. Still working on ideas and party favors. Not sure it can happen this year with some other responsibilities happening at the moment. I would like to combine it with an Elf theme. I also LOVE ornaments... so i think that or a baubles theme would be awesome.

This will be my 2nd (annual) CE and the theme is going to be "Winter Wonderland". My colors are pale blue, white and silver. Everything will start from there. I've already mailed the Save The Date refrigerator magnet recipe card along with the blue & white snowflake-printed card-stock picture frame for a subsequent photo if recipient attends the CE. I'm gathering ideas right now for games, decorations and prizes!
